Born in Chicago, ''Butch Warren'' is an extremely competent bassist, if not the most original, one of the strongest at the "back-em-up" job. One of the ''Blue Note'' strongholds, he's to be found in most sessions from the 60's, including with ''Joe Henderson'', ''Herbie Hancock'', ''Dexter Gordon'', ''Sonny Clark'', ''Kenny Dorham'' or ''Jackie McLean''. Fitting well with ''Monk's'' play, he also featured extensively on the pianist records from the mid 60. He "halfly" retired from music since the 70's, and never had a chance (or never wanted) to lead his own sessions.
