Born ''Herman Davis II'' in Cleveland, Mr ''Burrell'' was a early admirer of ''Marion Brown''. He eventually became part of the free jazz extremist NYC magma, along with ''Byard Lancaster'', ''Beaver Harris'', ''Grachan Monchur III'', and a few others, and was a regular in ''Shepp's'' formations. His solo career took off in the 70's, and he continued to play and produce records till now.
