If not a "forgotten soldier", ''Sam Jones'' is certainly under-evaluated. Very competent both with bass and cello, his appearances alongside ''Kenny Dorham'' and ''Cannonball Adderley'' are possibly the most known aspect of his career. ''Sam Jones'' also gave birth to a number of remarquable sessions under his own name, demonstrating both world class skills and a stunning maturity. ''Down Home'' (''Riverside'') is probably a very good start for beginners, while listeners more familiar with his early work will be delighted by the whole serie of 70's records.
