'''Legal Name''': Todd Daffy ---- = Editing Style = The Style Guides are ambiguous when it comes to people like Chonny Jash (whose name I will abbreviate as CJ) who primarily distribute their music via YouTube. If another editor comes along with another idea for how to handle this, go ahead, however this is how I've been doing it to keep a standard. == Release Scheme == CJ uses the follow release scheme: Songs are first released on YouTube as a lyric/music video as well as on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Later, they will appear on Spotify and others. Most of his songs eventually will be re-released as an Album (with few exceptions). For these tracks, the old YouTube video stays up, but on streaming services they are taken down and re-released as one cohesive album. == Data Entry == CJ did begin releasing music via the regular store fronts (Spotify et al.) for the release of CCCC. These releases have been imported regularly. For releases that are later re-released as an album, the old singles should be marked Withdrawn. All of the withdrawn releases have been entered to the best of my ability. Whether Bandcamp releases should be separate from the other streaming services is currently in deep discussion. Luckily, there are usually significant differences when Chonny uploads something to Bandcamp. For standardization, I have opted to import all Bandcamp releases separately. Typically, they contain the instrumental version where the Spotify et al. version does not. == YouTube releases == There are many tracks by CJ that are featured on YouTube but have not been uploaded elsewhere (Mario is Dead, old CanOfSoup releases that have been withdrawn, Meese, etc.). In addition, most tracks are released on YouTube as lyric or music videos, often with artistic vision with the Thumbnail/Cover art, typesetting, etc. All of CJ's YouTube videos have been uploaded in order to capture these details. Here's how I've been filling in the details, for consistency. Anything not specified should be entered as normal. === Singles === * '''Title''': This should match the title of the YouTube video. Per the style guides, you should remove the "Chonny Jash" part of the title. However, do keep the part crediting what the song is a cover of. It's pretty hard to apply normal Title guidelines to YouTube releases. * '''Release Group Type''': Should be set to Single. Mark as "Remix" if it is an instrumental version of another song. Do NOT group the instrumentals with the regular versions. Demos of songs should be marked as "Demo". * '''Release Group Title''': Generally, this should match how it is shown on the other digital storefronts. I tend to standardize these to just the name of the song, but I don't believe that exactly matches the style guides. * '''Label/Cat. Number''': Chonny Jash is vocally anti-label. Unless this changes in the future, the label should always be set to [label:157afde4-4bf5-4039-8ad2-5a15acc85176|[no label]], and the catalogue number set to [none]. * '''Barcode''': For now I have entered these as explicitly no barcode, but this is another point of discussion in the community. * '''Disambiguation''': Enter as "YouTube release". While this isn't technically required for videos that have no corresponding non-YouTube release, I have kept it consistent. * '''External Links''': This should be set to the YouTube alone, and marked as "video". * '''Recording Title''': Should be the same as the Release title. * '''Recording''': See below. === "Audio" Tracks === Some CJ videos are purely audio tracks. Typically they have the phrase "(audio)" in the video title and feature a simple or black and white thumbnail. Further, the video is a static image. These don't have nearly as much merit to be releases as the rest, but I still wanted to catalogue their presence and thumbnails. For these, remove the "(audio)" from the title, and use the Release Group type of "Other". If a RG for the single already exists, I would use that one and change the disambiguation to be "audio; YouTube release". It's not perfect, but it works. Make sure to mark the RG subtype as in the Singles section. === Albums/EPs === Everything should match the above section on Singles with the following exceptions: * '''Release Group Type''': Instead of Single, enter as Album or EP (reminder, EPs tend to only be EPs if the artist specifies it as such. I have marked the Power Hours and multi-song music videos as EPs). Generally, the subtype will be Compilation as almost all of CJ's albums are re-releases of its constituent singles. If it is the instrumental version of the album, also select Remix. Do NOT group it with the non-instrumental version. * '''Track List''': Because CJ has always used chapters/timestamps to demarcate songs in an Album video, they should be reflected as separate tracks/recordings on the release. You will have to calculate the times yourself, or leave them blank (I have used a calculate I made in Excel). === Recordings === Generally, the music/lyric video should be a separate recording. However, not all of CJ's videos count as "videos". My test has been, do any graphics change during the course of the video. Currently, the vast majority of videos count as proper videos, but some early songs and "(audio)" tracks do not. If the YouTube video is not a video proper, instead just add the YouTube link to the regular audio recording. If not, notes for how I enter these recordings are below. Album videos are split into chapters for each song. As noted above, these are entered as separate tracks. Treat the chapters as separate videos for the purpose of creating recordings. If the graphics do not change within the chapter, do not create a separate video recording, use the regular audio one. If the chapter is a proper video, then either create a new video recording, or, if the video is straight from the separate video, use the pre-existing video recording. The vast majority of the time a new video recording needs to be made, as there is usually new graphics put around the lyrics (An exception is the Larva Irae Incarnatum section of the Majoris Melodia album video). However, most of the recent album videos have not had separate video sections and utilize the audio recordings. * '''Title''': If this is a recording for a single, copy the title of the video. If this is a recording for an album video, the title should match how the track is credited in the timestamp/chapters. * '''Disambiguation''': The disambiguation needs to clarify the source of the video, date of recording, and type of video. I use the following format: YouTube, [date of video release]: [type of video]. For example: "YouTube, 2023‐03‐02: music video". For [type of video] I usually use "music video" or "lyric video" but there are exceptions. * '''Video Checkbox''': Make sure to mark this! * '''External Links''': Make sure to give the YouTube link (only for singles! album recordings should not all be linked to the same video) and select Video. == End Notes == I have entered every single video present on the CJ channel. This includes the deleted video for the original form of Fly Me to the Moon and the It's a Secret to Everyone EP. To my knowledge, there are no more unlisted or deleted videos. Please add them if you find them. I am also currently working on trying to recover old CanOfSoup items. That is an ongoing project as all of them have been withdrawn. Sneep videos are even further away.
