Hi I am the Singer /main writer behind Zen Vodou. Brief History on me. Reece McLaughlin Before I started Zen Vodou in 99 I did two albums with Greg Ginn on SST records. EL BAD Prior to that I was in a band in San Diego California called "Nation of Lies" While doing a record with Greg I began my other career, the business side of music. I started at SST, then went to the one stop Super Discount Cd's, THen met Mike Muir and the Suiciadal boys. I was offered a job helping Jim Muir run Suicidl Records and Dogtown Skateboard. While their I started Zen Vodou with the help of Sony's Acid Software "then owned by Sonic Foundry" . After about two years of plaing out. Mike asked to hear it and then released those two songs you here on the Friends and Family two compilation. Mike and I were in discusions about doing a record when Sept 11th hit. Everything was put on hold and I was laid off. The band continued to play out but things did get rough, Later that year I was asked to help Begin a new record label. That label is Long Live Crime Records. After having started it 5 years ago I recently sold my share to get Zen Vodou back on the map. We currently have new songs and are planning an album release in 2007. Keith Hillebrandt is producing it with us. Keith has also done Nine Inch nails "the Fragile" and David Bowie's I'm afraid of americans" Band Bio as of 10/*2006 Zen n 1: ...asserting that enlightenment can come through meditation and intuition rather than faith. Voodoo (French Spelling Vodou) n…. A religion practiced chiefly in Caribbean countries, especially Haiti, which includes ritual elements and the animism and magic of slaves from West Africa, in which a supreme God rules a large pantheon of local and tutelary deities, deified ancestors, and saints, who communicate with believers in dreams, trances, and ritual possessions. Zen Vodou n. 1: native –Los Angeles band consisting of singer Reece McLaughlin and brothers Diego and Lenny Ibarra on the guitar and bass respectively. Anger, rage, bliss & forgiveness…. Zen Vodou creates a dark and heavy sound that leaves you with the unyielding hope for the future. Sound strange? Singer McLaughlin combines a vast range of talent that reminds you of David Gahan/ Jim Morrison mixed with Al Jourgenson and Trent Reznor. The guitar, although heavy and in your face, is seasoned with an intense Spanish guitar melody that sets this group apart from the crowd. Combining this with McLaughlin's superior programming and texturing, the Zen Vodou sound is one that is uniquely profound, transforming the listener's senses to new dimensions of consciousness. With the constant fluid movement their music provides, the songs become layered in such a way that makes you wonder how they did it. The band has been together for over Four years. As a group, the members have taken their time to get to know each other’s strengths and have developed the ability to play off of them in such a way that becomes pure melodic & energetic magic. Zen Vodou released two songs on the Friends and Family Vol.2, album in 2001 A compilation done by Suicidal Tendencies own label. Their new Album is Due in 2007 produced by Keith Hillebrandt (nine inch nails & David Bowie) url;[www.myspace.com/zenvodou]
