From its inception in 1969 until 1974 the band was known as Цветы (Flowers). In 1974 this name was banned by Soviet authorities as sounding too "hippy". Restarted by its founder and leader Стас Намин (Stas Namin) in 1976 as Группа Стаса Намина "Цветы" (Stas Namin's Group Flowers.)
