Based out of Miami, they achieved enough notoriety to open for [https://musicbrainz.org/artist/084308bd-1654-436f-ba03-df6697104e19|Green Day] and [https://musicbrainz.org/artist/779353f3-6401-4cda-a8a2-6fd3ec9bc11b|The Mighty Mighty Bosstones]. They dropped one EP, one full-length album, and some loose tracks along the way before dissolving in late 2001 upon Isaac's move to New York to attend Juilliard. From the band's archived website, roughly ~3 months before dissolution: "The Blinking Underdogs are a sextet out of Miami, Florida who are adding a whole new element to the punk-ska scene. They are infusing various musical characteristics into one punk-ska sound, like pieces of a puzzle. Members originate from various parts of the country and five of the six members attend the University of Miami School of Music where they are pursuing their lives of music. Oscar Issac, guitar and lead vocals, is from Miami and acts in local theatre productions. Nick Speck, bass, and Keith Cooper, saxophone, are from New York and are seniors at UM. Keith Cooper, saxophone. Bill Sommer, drums, is from St. Louis, Missouri and is a senior at UM. Matt LaPlant, guitar, and Alan Mills, trombone, are both from Florida and attend UM as well. The band has various influences ranging from jazz and funk artists to bands like Sublime, Goldfinger, The Cure and Fishbone. The Blinking Underdogs have been showing their faces to a lot around South Florida playing shows with acts such as New Found Glory, Drexel, MU330, RX Bandits, Edna's Goldfish, and more. The past year's shows includes the SONY Music Showcase in Daytona Beach, IUMA's MusicOMania 2000 Battle of the Bands competition, ZETAFEST 2000, and VANS Warped Tour 2000. They have released their debut CD, Last Words, and also just finished 6 brand new songs in the studio. Look for the Blinking Underdogs to be performing at venues throughout South Florida. Oscar Issac - Lead Vocals/Guitar Oscar is a highly talented singer, songwriter who leads The Blinking Underdogs. With his dark lyrics and melodic guitar sounds, he has helped take the band to the next level. Oscar originates from South Florida, so he is no stranger to the scene. He played with 'The Worms', who at their time were at the top of the local scene. While activly pursuing an acting career, he makes sure to spend his free time promoting the band. Nick Speck - Bass Nick originates from New York where he was exposed to music at an early age. Currently atttending The University of Miami, pursuing his degree in music business. Nick's powerful bass lines and love of the music can scene during any of their live performances. Bill Sommer - Drums Bill hails from St. Louis, MO. Since moving to Miami, Bill has been activly pursuing his performance degree from The University of Miami. Bill is the silent one, the subtle one. But when it is time to put a show on, all that goes out the window and his stern beats keep the shows at high levels. Alan Mills - Trombone Alan has been in the local music scene it seems since birth. Playing with various groups throughout his short musical career. The resident trombone player/screamer is currently attending The University of Miami majoring in Audio Engineering. Keith Cooper - Saxophone Keith is currently attending The University of Miami hoping one day to be a music teacher. From when he was a young kid in NY, Keith has shown his love of music, and surfing. You can see his love of the music come through on stage while playing his saxophone. Matt LaPlant - Guitar Matt is the newest member of the band, however has managed to find his place quite quickly. Originating from the Sarasota area, he is currently attending The University of Miami pursuing a degree in computers and music."
