=== Biographical notes === Ramón López Alvarado was born in the small town of Siqueiros in Mazatlan municipality, Sinaloa, Mexico, on July 14th, 1928. He started to professionally play music when he was nine years old, and first became a banda director when he was fourteen. In 1950, he founded Banda La Costeña which is the oldest still existing banda in Mazatlan after [artist:1e7b781d-2616-4d8a-b194-99ace90659e2|Banda el Recodo de Don Cruz Lizárraga]. He lived for some times in Mexicali where he was first married and the couple had seven children. He married for the second time in Mazatlan, with Mrs. Victoriana Carvajal de López and fathered seven more children. According to Edgardo López Carvajal, he surely had more children : "We are aware about these seven brothers in Mexicali, but he also fathered two children in Los Mochis. The mother of these children aimed at becoming a noun, some people are telling that our father saw her, one day, as she was leaving a church, and that he followed her as long as he could speak with her and that she fell in love. They had two children. She didn't know that our father had already married another person. When she learned it, she left him.".
