This personnel played during the Five Spot residency (from 18 July 1957 until late December 1957) and the Carnegie Hall sessions: Thelonious Monk (piano) John Coltrane (tenor saxophone) Wilbur Ware (bass) (18.07.1957-13.08.1957) Ahmed Abdul-Malik (from 13.08.1957 on) Shadow Wilson (drums) Wilbur Ware played in the quartet from opening of the Five Spot Concerts on 18 July 1957, and was replaced by Ahmed Abdul-Malik on the evening of 13 August after failing, without warning, to appear for work.
